We are dedicated to the special attention skin of color requires in issues such as hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, ingrown hairs, and other similar conditions.

Dr Memar has both medical and basic science training in issues affecting skin of color. The definition of skin of color is wide and broad. Not only does Dr Memar deal with his own personal ethnic skin issues, but he treats patients from across the country and the world. Skin of color is unique in that inflammation leaves secondary color changes, which can be as traumatic as the original problem. For example, acne is traumatic enough, however, it can leave no only scars but post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Too often people focus on the  PIH, and not the original cause of the inflammation, setting the patient up for a circuitous process of acne and PIH that never ends. Other issues common in skin of color revolves around hair. We have greater tendency for ingrown hair in the neck and face area. On the scalp we can see unique causes to hair loss. And in children, the clues to ringworm are critical in correct diagnosis. One other common presentation is keloid formation. Make sure you doctor is adept at treating keloids and understands the multitude of dos and donts that go with the treatment of keloids in skin of color. Another problem we see is loss of pigment, which can be very difficult to deal with. There are newer technologies for treatment of vitiligo.
